1.道可道非常道。（《道德经》第1章）
1. The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao. (Chapter 1 of Tao Te Ching)

这句话有三种标点方式。第一种：道，可道，非常道。告诉我们，道之可说的那一部分，不是所谓的长恒不变之道。第二种：道可，道非，常道。告诉我们，只要有人说这样可以，就有人说这样不可以。这是常态，这个就叫做常道。第三种，也是一般最常用的：道可道，非常道。告诉我们，大家所说的都是道，没有错，但是只是道的一小部分，大家没有办法把“道”完完整整地说清楚。
There are three punctuation methods for this sentence. The first one: Tao, can be spoken, is not the eternal Tao. It tells us that the part of the Tao that can be spoken is not the so-called everlasting and unchanging Tao. The second one: Tao can, Tao is not, the eternal Tao. It tells us that if someone says it can be done, others will say it cannot. This is the norm, and this is called the eternal Tao. The third one, which is also the most commonly used: The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao. It tells us that everything people say is Tao, and there is no mistake, but it is only a small part of the Tao, and people cannot fully express the “Tao”.

2，上善若水。水善利万物而不争，处众人之所恶，故几于道。（《道德经》第8章）
2. The highest virtue is like water. Water is good at benefiting all things without contention and stays in places where people dislike to be, thus it is close to the Tao. (Chapter 8 of Tao Te Ching)

人应该修道，但是修道要有一个榜样，这个榜样就是水。水，很善于无私地帮助万物，无私地利于万物而不求回报，它没有说你用它，就要收你多少钱。人都很讨厌比别的人低下，可是水却往低处流，冲走污秽，几几乎乎接近于道。
People should cultivate the Tao, but they need a role model, and this role model is water. Water is very good at selflessly helping all things, benefiting all things without asking for anything in return. It doesn’t say that if you use it, you have to pay a certain amount of money. People hate being lower than others, but water flows downward, washing away filth, and is almost close to the Tao.

3，致虚极，守静笃。（《道德经》第16章）
3. Reach the extreme of emptiness, and firmly guard the tranquility. (Chapter 16 of Tao Te Ching)

虚掉心中的执著，去除不必要的欲念，减少莫名的烦恼，然后使内心保持原来的那种虚和静，这样才能够有新的发现，才能够知道原来道清清楚楚地在这里，只是自己糊涂，看不见而已。我们常讲的四个字“清心寡欲”，其实就是从这里来的。
